MyBioSource\'s CD138 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistology Frozen, Flow cytometry (FC/FACS), Functional Assays (FN)*, Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistology Paraffin*, Western Blot (WB).Flow Cytometry: Use 10ul of the suggested working dilution to label 106 cells in 100ul.
Immunohistology - Frozen: Minimum Dilution: 1/100; Maximum Dilution: 1/500
Flow Cytometry: Maximum Dilution: Neat
Functional Assays: Application Note: This product contains sodium azide, removal by dialysis is recommended prior to use in functional assays.
Immunohistology - Paraffin: Minimum Dilution: 1/100; Maximum Dilution: 1/500; Application Note: This product requires heat pre-treatment. Sodium citrate buffer pH6.0 is recommended for this purpose. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD138 sdc1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process.
The CD138 sdc1 product has the following accession number(s) (GI #55749480) (NCBI Accession #NP_001006947.1) (Uniprot Accession #P18827). Researchers may be interested in using Bioinformatics databases such as those available at The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) website for more information about accession numbers and the proteins they represent. Even researchers unfamiliar with bioinformatics databases will find the NCBI databases to be quite user friendly and useful.

Mouse anti human CD138 antibody, clone B-A38 recognizes human CD138, also known as Syndecan-1 (SDC-1). CD138 is a member of the transmembrane heparan sulfate proteoglycan family (O\'Connell et al. 2004, Sanderson et al. 2008). It is composed of a core protein (comprising 3 domains; a short cytoplasmic domain, a transmembrane domain, and a long extracellular domain) and covalently attached heparan sulfate chains (Sanderson et al. 2008).Syndecan-1 is expressed on the surface of plasma cells within the hematopoietic system and on the surface of mature epithelial cells (O\'Connell et al. 2004). It acts as an extracellular matrix receptor, involved in many cellular functions, including cell binding, cell signalling and cytoskeletal organization through cell-cell adhesion and cell-matrix adhesion (Sanderson et al. 2008).
Perservative Stabilisers: 0.09% Sodium Azide
1% Bovine Serum Albumin
Preparation: Purified IgG prepared by ion exchange chromatography. Histology Positive Control Tissue: Bone Marrow
Buffer Solution: Phosphate buffered saline
Target Species: Human. In general, we may offer more than one antibody to a given target to enable options for the researcher. Available antibodies recognizing CD138 are readily searchable from our website. Different antibodies against the same target such as CD138 may be optimized or tested for different applications and species. This enables researchers to select the option that may be best for their model system, to screen more than antibody to determine which one may be best for their model system, as well as to use more than one antibody to follow up on and validate their results.
