Alkaline phosphatase (AP) is an ubiquitously expressed enzyme which removes phosphate groups from target molecules, including DNA, RNA and alkaloids, under alkaline conditions, and is present at higher concentrations in the placenta (placental AP), intestines (intestinal AP) and liver/bone/kidney (tissue non-specific AP). Although the exact biochemical function of BAP is uncertain, measurement of the serum levels of BAP can be used as a biochemical indicator of bone turnover. Conditions which present with a decrease in the level of BAP (hypophosphatasemia) include the inherited bone-deforming disorder hypophosphatasia and osteoporosis, while an increase in BAP (hyperphosphatasemia) is associated with Paget\'s disease, bone fractures and osteosarcomas.
Immunogen: Alkaline phosphatase from human bone. Grade: Affinity Purified. In general, we may offer more than one antibody to a given target to enable options for the researcher. Available antibodies recognizing Phosphatase, Alkaline, Bone are readily searchable from our website. Different antibodies against the same target such as Phosphatase, Alkaline, Bone may be optimized or tested for different applications and species. This enables researchers to select the option that may be best for their model system, to screen more than antibody to determine which one may be best for their model system, as well as to use more than one antibody to follow up on and validate their results.
