S100 belongs to the family of calcium binding proteins such as calmodulin and troponin C. S100A is composed of an alpha and beta chain whereas S100B is composed of two beta chains. Antibody to S100 stains Schwannomas, ependymomas, astrogliomas, almost all benign and malignant melanomas and their metastases. S100 protein is also expressed in the antigen presenting cells such as the Langerhans cells in skin and interdigitating reticulum cells in the paracortex of lymph nodes. S100 is a nervous tissue specific soluble protein made in glial cells. Present in sweat glands chongrocytes and myoepithelial cells. May be found as cytoplasmic, membranous or mixed throughout the areas of tumor. Usually cytoplasmic when present in normal tissues.
Immunogen: Purified S100 protein from human brain. Hybridoma: Sp2/0 myeloma cells with spleen cells from Balb/c mice. In general, we may offer more than one antibody to a given target to enable options for the researcher. Available antibodies recognizing S100B are readily searchable from our website. Different antibodies against the same target such as S100B may be optimized or tested for different applications and species. This enables researchers to select the option that may be best for their model system, to screen more than antibody to determine which one may be best for their model system, as well as to use more than one antibody to follow up on and validate their results. Blood, Brain, Connective Tissue, Embryonic Tissue, Eye, Heart, Lung, Nerve, Skin, Spinal Cord tissues are correlated with this protein. S100B also interacts with the following gene(s): AHNAK, ANXA6, APP, GFAP, IQGAP1, S100A1, STK38, TP53. Brain Diseases, Brain Injuries, Brain Ischemia, Cardiovascular Diseases, Disease Models, Animal, Growth Disorders, Heart Diseases, Inflammation, Necrosis, Nervous System Diseases are some of the diseases may be linked to S100 Protein, beta, beta.
