The SOD2 sod2 (Catalog #MBS840109) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Superoxide Dismutase 2 (SOD-2) Antibody (2A1) reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. MyBioSource\'s Superoxide Dismutase 2 (SOD-2) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB).Western blot: 1 ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SOD2 sod2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process.
The SOD2 sod2 product has the following accession number(s) (GI #67782305) (NCBI Accession #NP_000627.2) (Uniprot Accession #P04179). Researchers may be interested in using Bioinformatics databases such as those available at The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) website for more information about accession numbers and the proteins they represent. Even researchers unfamiliar with bioinformatics databases will find the NCBI databases to be quite user friendly and useful.

Testing Data
Monoclonal Antibody to detect superoxide dismutase 2 in human, mouse and rat samples.
Background: Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is an antioxidant enzyme involved in the defense system against reactive oxygen species (ROS). SOD catalyzes the dismutation reaction of superoxide radical anion (O2-) to hydrogen peroxide, which is then catalyzed to innocuous O2 and H2O by glutathione peroxidase and catalase. Several classes of SOD have been identified. These include intracellular copper, zinc SOD (Cu, Zn-SOD/SOD-1), mitochondrial manganese SOD (Mn-SOD/SOD-2) and extracellular Cu, Zn-SOD (EC-SOD/SOD-3). SOD1 is found in all eukaryotic species as a homodimeric 32 kDa enzyme containing one each of Cu and Zn ion per subunit. The manganese containing 80 kDa tetrameric enzyme SOD2, is located in the mitochondrial matrix in close proximity to a primary endogenous source of superoxide, the mitochondrial respiratory chain. SOD3 is a heparin-binding multimer of disulfide-linked dimers, primarily expressed in human lungs, vessel wallsand airways. SOD4 is a copper chaperone for superoxide dismutase (CCS), which specifically delivers Cu to copper/zinc superoxide dismutase. CCS may activate copper/zinc superoxide dismutase through direct insertion of the Cu cofactor. SOD2 destroys radicals which are normally produced within the cells and which are toxic to biological systems.
Immunogen: Recombinant human protein purified from E.coli
Positive Control: WB analysis of HeLa cells, HepG2 cells, Mouse brain tissue, Rat Brain tissue lysates. Handling: The antibody solution should be gently mixed before use. In general, we may offer more than one antibody to a given target to enable options for the researcher. Available antibodies recognizing SOD2 are readily searchable from our website. Different antibodies against the same target such as SOD2 may be optimized or tested for different applications and species. This enables researchers to select the option that may be best for their model system, to screen more than antibody to determine which one may be best for their model system, as well as to use more than one antibody to follow up on and validate their results.
